Farmer Joe, principal of The Barnyard School, insisted that the animals attend school. A meeting was called. “Hear ye, hear ye! A good education is important. The doors of Barnyard School are now open.”
“As you wish,” most animals agreed.
The winged animals flat refused especially the chickens.
“We’re not attending school, so don’t count your eggs before they hatch,” a mother hen cackled. They began raising cane.
“I must guard the hen house,” Mikki Chicken said. “The little red fox is always lurking around. Farmer Joe has bumped his head! Must I remind him that birds of a feather flock together? He’s about to ruffle my feathers.”
The other chickens looked on and continued raising cane.
“I’m not giving in either because I’m no chicken-hearted rooster, and I have no time for school. Brewster Rooster boasted.”
“Quack, quack, quack, no thanks to school,” Chuck Duck said. “I have no time to brood over reading books.”
What do you think? Did the barnyard animals attend school or did they challenge authority?
