Ms. Fox's name was getting around at Wilder Elementary. Teachers admired how she handled unruly students. Principal Perkins asked her to sub again the following Monday.
“I'd be delighted to sub again on Monday,” she said. “The students and I are bonding well.”

“All third-grade classes are scheduled to visit the wildlife reserve around 11:00 a.m.,” the principal said. “Mrs. Garcia is also subbing for Mr. West’s third-grade class. Your class and Mrs. Garcia’s class will ride on the same bus.”
“I'll be here bright and early with bells on,” Ms. Fox exclaimed. “We’ll have a delightful time on the field trip. Don’t worry about a thing, Principal Perkins.”

As sure as the sun rose, Ms. Fox arrived on Monday morning at 7:50 a.m.
“Good morning class,” Ms. Fox said. “We have an exciting day planned ahead.”
The students continued putting their backpacks away in their cubbies. Z’nia and James ignored her and continued chatting.

Ms. Fox became slightly annoyed. “Hello class, may I have your attention please?” she begged. “When I am speaking, please pay attention. I'm not here just to give you work, but also to keep you safe. Please listen in case there is an emergency.”
“Just worry about yourself,” Rybekkah uttered. “I don't need a dumb old sub to keep me safe.”
